Tech in New Brunswick: Bridging the Gap Between Talent and Opportunity
What if the problem isn’t a lack of jobs - but a lack of access?
New Brunswick’s tech sector is quietly becoming one of the province’s strongest economic drivers, fueled by innovation, AI adoption, and a growing demand for skilled talent. Yet, for many job seekers, breaking into the industry still feels out of reach.
At the CAM Institute of Design, Cathy Simpson, CEO of TechImpact, brought this tension into focus during a recent seminar. She addressed a critical issue shaping today’s workforce-the employability gap in Canada. Despite rising demand for skills in AI, many candidates face familiar barriers: limited Canadian experience, weak professional networks, and hiring systems increasingly filtered by automation. At the same time, employers are continually on the search for talent.
The reality is simple: tech in New Brunswick isn’t confined to tech companies. It spans industries, reshaping how work happens and where opportunities exist. Closing the gap, however, requires more than technical skills. It demands stronger alignment between education, industry, and government- and a proactive approach from job seekers willing to build, adapt, and show up strategically.
The opportunity is here. The gap is real. The next move is yours.
